Q&A for Homemade Chocolate Milk Recipe
Is homemade chocolate milk good for you?
Homemade chocolate milk is for sure healthier than anything you can purchase at the store. Store bought chocolate milk powders are most often full of additives and very high in sugar. Making it at home allows you to avoid all that harmful stuff and to control the amount of sugar you consume. Using good wholesome ingredients will certainly make this a healthier treat.
It is easy to customize it to your families preferences or food sensitivities too. You can swap out the milk or sugar for the version your family prefers like whole milk, 2%, raw milk, coconut milk, oat milk, or sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey or stevia. You can also increase or decrease the amounts to get the perfect sweetness and taste you like.
What are the ingredients in homemade chocolate milk?
This recipe uses five pantry staples: milk, sweetener (sugar, honey, maple syrup, etc.), cocoa powder, vanilla and salt.
Can you put cocoa powder in milk?
It can be very difficult to mix cocoa powder into cold milk without a lot of stirring or blending. This is because cocoa powder is hydrophobic (meaning it repels water). The best way to incorporate cocoa powder into milk is to first add just a little hot water to the cocoa powder, sweetener, vanilla and salt and whisk it together into a syrup. The cocoa powder will mix nicely into cold milk once it has been fully hydrated by the hot water.
Can you refrigerate chocolate milk?
Yes. Chocolate milk can be refrigerated for a week.
