Prize Winning Meatloaf Recipe

This prize winning meatloaf recipe was one of the regular dinners my mom would make when I was young. Shortly after getting married, I remember requesting this recipe from her. It’s healthy, easy to make and tastes great as leftovers! All were important to me as a young wife and new to the role of family cook.

Prize Winning Meatloaf?

I was talking with my mom and asked her where she got the recipe. It turns out it came from her mom, my granny. While I have no idea what prize this meatloaf recipe won, if any, it definitely has won an award for being a meal everyone enjoys. My children and husband love when I make this for dinner. It’s super moist and full of flavor. I’ve made this recipe so often, I don’t even need to pull the cookbook out for it anymore!

Completing the Meal

So what sides go nicely with this prize winning meatloaf recipe? Because it’s such a quick main dish to throw together, I often have time to make some delicious sides to go with it.

I usually pair it with another one of the recipes from my mom’s kitchen, Cinnamon Sweet Potato Puff. Other times I will make Crispy Potatoes or regular mashed potatoes to go on the side. Adding cooked veggies or a salad completes this healthy homemade dinner.

Ten minutes to make this healthy gluten free prize winning meatloaf. One hour to bake in the oven and then dinner is served.

Tip When Cooking From Scratch

I almost always make a double or triple batch of everything when I cook. Because when you cook from scratch that is one of the biggest time savers! One of best things about this meatloaf recipe is it freezes really well. You can bake it before you freeze it but I most often freeze the meatloaf raw. I can then defrost it in the fridge a day or two before I plan on having it for dinner. I find that it stays nice and moist this way rather than baking it first.

      1. It’s a recipe my mom and grandmother passed down. I have no idea where it is originally from. It is super yummy though!

  1. Wow! It was passed down to so many moms and grandmothers. All you have to do is look online to see it is originally from Quaker Oats. Seems disingenuous to put on your blog!

    1. You are right! I asked my mom if she knew where the recipe came from and she said it came from my grandmother. I had no idea it was a quaker oats recipe until after I posted the recipe. I’ve had several people point that out to me. I just haven’t had the time to update that blog post.
