This House of Dreams
After a lot of thought, I decided to give the blog a little makeover, and by little, I mean I’ve change the name of the blog and moved to a self-hosted website. I really wanted to get on a self-hosted site for a while and last fall I took the plunge and purchased a domain name. However, I made my life really complicated when I tried to make the blog exactly like I wanted it and it put me at a stand still for quite a few months. I just needed to keep it simple, and I finally realized that today. So I was finally able to get it up and running.
Inspiration for the new blog name from one of my favorite series of books by Lucy Maude Montgomery. The book is titled “Anne’s House of Dreams”. I just fell in love the with title. Is it weird to fall in love with the title of a book? I’ll let you in on a little secret, I’ve never actually read it, so really I am in love with just the title. Last summer, I started going through the entire series because I love the story of Anne. I’d only read the first book and half of the second a long time ago. I always feel guilty if I don’t finish a book or a series, even after years. I guess it is the feeling that I’ve left something incomplete. It had always been on my mind to finish the series at some point. So far I’ve gone through the first three. The series is geared towards 9-12 year olds but deep down inside, I still feel like I’m twelve so it didn’t feel too weird to read them. And here’s my other little secret, I’m actually a pretty slow reader, I don’t actually have time to sit down and read for hours, but since I do spend quite a bit of time driving in the car, I’ve been able to listen to them (I’ve conquered a few of classics this way over the last year). I only knew the name of the first three Anne books, but after I had finished reading them, I looked up the title for the rest of the books so I knew which one to read next. That’s when I fell in love the title of the fifth book.
The title “Anne’s House of Dreams” kept going around in my head and I thought it sounded romantic and, well, kind of like me. I’m a dreamer. I have big visions and lots of passions (maybe too many). My dreaming constantly has me coming up new and creative solutions for our house and embarking on crazy renovations and projects, as Ben can attest to. After debating on many variations of the name, I decided to keep it simple with “This House of Dreams.”
That’s the story of how “Downright Davis” changed to become “This House of Dreams.”
It’s not the age range that matter; it’s whether or not you enjoy the book.
So don’t feel embarrassed.
